little E carpathicus

i found about one month ago a little Euscorpius carpathicus. I arranged for it a little habitat with stones pieces of soil and leaves in a plastic box. He died dwo days ago.

I really want to know more about the food he eats.

Can you help me?

It is very important to me.

Or maybe about his relatives (italicus, tergestinus etc)

What a scorpion eats mostly depends on his own dimensions: a little Euscorpius will hardly attack a prey if it's bigger than him. Then, as in captivity as in the wild, he will feed of almost anything of adequate dimensions he can find.

 

In captivity, you can feed a little Euscorpius with Drosofila melanogaster, newborn Tenebrio molitor and crickets, or Lepisma saccharina youngsters.

The diet of an adult scorpion mantained in captivity mostly consists of medium crickets, medium-sized T. molitor (offered occasionally because they contain large amounts of fat), night butterflies... and many people even offer house spiders.

but for me, is more important to know about its real prey found in its real habitat,

because I have tried to feed it with various small insects.

scorpions are great fasters... even if you tried with various types of insects, he could have been on one of his fastings, and then rejecting everything. Or maybe he was preparing himself to moult and his death was caused by a unsuccessful moult.

Dear Neura

I've observed E.italicus (in its natural habitat, a stonewall) eating various insects, Scutigera sp., spiders, caterpillars, moths and even a baby lizard and a baby Anguis fragilis (but they were really young and small)...

In captivity I used to feed them with mealworms, crickets, grasshoppers and (I'm a fisherman...) Calliphora maggots...

in my town (plain region). The scorpion doesn't live in it, but just about 50 km eastward in the hills region (Subcarpathians).

The only scorpion species in Malta, E. sicanus (previous to this paper it was regarded as E. carpathicus candiota) is found very commonly in human habitations, in cellars and damp rooms. It is also found in caves and under stones in the countryside.
