La muta è un momento critico per tutti gli artropodi. Basta qualche imprevisto, come una disidratazione imprevista, per morire.

Questa Argiope bruennichi era arrivata all'ultima muta, e aveva già un fidanzato pronto ad accoppiarsi, ma qualcosa è andato storto.

Forse il vento e il sole l'hanno disidratata, e lo scorrimento fuori dall'exuvia si è arrestato. 

La femmina ormai era morta e il maschio, che non aveva capito niente, continuava ad aspettare fiducioso ....
